Well, I’ve got Arch Linux installed. Got it conifgured and installed XWindow server. Now it’s time to install the software that I need. This could take some time as there is almost nothing installed with the base Arch install. All you get is the basic GNU Tool chain required to run a system.
What’s really interesting running the top command with the base install showed that the system was using a whole 40,780 KB (40MB) of RAM and the CPU was at 99.8% idle. Obviously this will change as we start adding packages but that was impressive I thought.
At first glance, I like what I’m seeing with Arch. It will take sometime to get the system setup the way I want it though so I won’t be giving any reviews for a while. Also I’m trying a new window manager XMonad. This is a tiled window manager and not your full desktop environment like KDE or Gnome.
We’ll see how it goes.
